1. Army has a rich sports legacy which is preserved through professional nurturing of talent from young age. The Boys Sports Company (BSC) has played an important role in developing the right talent. The termination of Boys Companies in the Army in 1976 has had a direct bearing on the decline of sports in the services as the Boys Companies were nurseries from which many outstanding sportspersons in the past were spotted and trained. The project received fresh lease of life as a project under the Sports Authority of India (SAI) duly approved by the governing body in its 15th meeting held on 18 January 1991.
2. The Boys Sports Company, Army Sports Institute (BSC, ASI) was raised on 1st January 2006 under the ‘Mission Olympics Programme’ as a joint venture between SAI and Indian Army aimed at selecting and grooming potential talent in selected sports disciplines to achieve sporting excellence while pursuing education and later enrolling in the Army, thereby securing their future.
3. Boys Sports Company at Army Sports Institute with a capacity of 210 Sports Cadets is the only BSC of the Army which has the maximum number of Sports Cadets as this BSC Ensures a ‘Conveyer Belt Concept’ of providing next crop of elite athletes in seven disciplines i.e Athletics, Archery, Boxing, Diving, Fencing, Wrestling and Weightlifting. This is the only BSC which is not co-located/ Dependent on any Regimental center. It is collocated/dependent on Army Sports Institute which houses world class infrastructure and excellent support staff as coaches, physical conditioners and consultants from India and aboard. Army Sports Institute is responsible for technical and administrative control of this Boys Sports Company.
